Gijs Kramers is the viola player of the Ruysdael Quartet, one of the leading Dutch string quartets of this moment.
He is also a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London.
As a soloist he performs all over Europe, both in recitals as well as concertos. He is also professor of viola and chamber music at Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam.
Gijs Kramers conducts various orchestras and ensembles in the UK and the Netherlands.
For many years he was the artistic director of the Ricciotti Ensemble Amsterdam and in 2016 he founded SOL, Street Orchestra Live, where he is still artistic director.
He also conducted the Nieuw Ensemble and is conductor of the string orchestra Metamorphosen.
As a composer, Gijs Kramers has written pieces for the Bath Festival, Rational Rec in London and the Ricciotti Ensemble. He is also a prolific arranger.
His works are played by the Residentie Orchestra The Hague, Gelders Orchestra Arnhem, Ludwig, the Montfort Hall Orchestra Leicester, Bicycle Orchestra PEP and at chamber music festivals worldwide such as Colmar, Delft, Melbourne and Tbilisi.
